After Care Instructions

Congratulations! You are now part of an elite group of oral health care investors. You’ve made the smart choice to keep your teeth. And with the crown and bridge work we’ve done, you can keep them for a lifetime. How many other investments can you make with that kind of pay-off? Let’s keep the momentum going in between visits (crowns and bridges usually take two or three appointments to complete) and ensure we protect your assets!

On our first appointment with you, we’ll prepare your teeth and place protective temporaries while the custom restorations are being crafted. After each appointment, when anesthetic has been used, your lips, teeth and tongue may be numb for several hours after the appointment. Avoid very hot liquids and any chewing until the numbness has completely worn off.

On rare occasions, temporary crowns come off. Keep the temporary and call us so that it may be re-cemented. It is very important for the proper fit of your final restoration that the temporary stay in place.

When chewing, try to avoid the side where work was done. To help keep your temporaries in place, avoid chewing sticky foods like:

  • hot pizza cheese
  • peanut butter sandwiches
  • caramels
  • gum

Stay away from hard foods, too:

  • pretzels
  • hard candy
  • nuts
  • ice cubes

Flossing Tips:

Floss side to side rather than up and down. Don’t pull the floss up between teeth to remove it; this could jeopardize your temporary crown. Just pull it straight out near the gum line. And don’t be afraid to brush normally. In fact, you should. Before you know it, you’ll be better than new!

Ouch!

Feeling a little sensitive to hot and cold? Sore gums? No worries; it’s normal. Here’s our favorite home remedy to reduce pain and swelling. It really works!

  • 8 oz glass of warm water
  • ½ tsp of salt

Mix it up and use it to rinse your mouth 3 times each day. It’ll speed up the healing process and your mouth will thank you!

Call us right away if you have persistent pain, unusual bleeding or other concerns. We are here to help!
